Physician Manpower Shortage: Forecasting Through 2005

Abstract
This study examines the adequacy of physician manpower supply through the year of 2005. KMA (Korean Medical Association) insists that there is a surplus of physician manpower, and that further increase in the number of physician will cause
decreased in
the quality of physicial care. However. This study finds to the contrary of both of their arguments.
The country is already in severe shortage of physican manpower. As demand for health care rapidly increased with growth in per capita income, unless there is an increased in physician manpower sooner or later, shortage will be enlarged and its
consequense will be severe. An average Korean and the economy as a whole will have to pay a substantial amount of social costs stemming from physicial shortage in the future.
